The Tragedy of Macbeth The Tragedy of Macbeth by William Shakespeare is a story of kingship, ambition, and murder. Macbeth is tricked by witches into thinking that there is a possibility that he would become king. Striving for the throne with ambition, Macbeth obtains his goal to be king, only through murder. Lady Macbeth is really behind the murders, driving Macbeth to make sure no one gets in his way. She plans the murders, persuades him to pursue the plan to murder, and convinces him to act innocent regardless his guilt. After Macbeth tells Lady Macbeth about the witches’ prophecies, Lady Macbeth becomes ambitious to help Macbeth reach the throne.
