In play Macbeth, Shakespeare reveals that an individual’s great desire for power will lead him/her to perform consequential deeds that will scar his/her conscience and change the outcome of his/her life eternally. Macbeth is informed by three witches that he is going to become king and this initiates Macbeth’s thought of becoming powerful. Macbeth doesn’t act on his thoughts until he tells his wife, Lady Macbeth, that he could become king. Lady Macbeth is extremely power hungry and does all she can to convince Macbeth to be just as desirable as her. Together, they come up with a plan to murder King Duncan, so that Macbeth can become king like the witches foretold.
The infamous Shakespearen play, Macbeth, relies heavily on the symbolism of regret and ambition throughout the play. Both playing key roles in the actions taken by the characters. Macbeth is a play about a Kingdom in Scotland, ruled by King Duncan. Macbeth was a trusted general for Duncan, who had clear ambitions of becoming King. After meeting witches, their prophecy becomes his sole ambition, to become King.
Shakespeare suggests that ambition overwrites our integrity and humanity through Macbeth. One may feel guilty for lacking integrity after pursuing ambition with cruel intentions. Through our groups reinterpretation of “Out Damned Spot” scene we choose to set in school where classmates must choose popularity before friends and cruelty.
A man, goaded by his wife, murders time and again to satisfy his hunger for power, slowly driving himself into insanity through his ambition. Ambition, both a blessing and a curse, lead Macbeth to a series of betrayals and murders of and by those closest to him. Conspiring with his wife in Act 1, Lady Macbeth had convinced Macbeth that by killing Duncan, King of Scotland, he could become the next King. He and Lady Macbeth planned the whole thing; who they would frame, how they would get past the guards, which one of them should be the one to do it, and how would they hide the knives once the deed had been accomplished. At the last second, Macbeth appeared to have a change of heart, but then his wife taunted him, insulting his manhood.
Act 1 initially commences with three witches setting a dark mysterious mood for the entire play. They predict Macbeth’s future. I find them significant because the play is based upon Macbeth and “his” throne, which is what they notify Macbeth of. Influenced by the witches’ prophecy, Macbeth’s ambition inclined. His urge to become king was noticeable in an immense way.
Political leaders naturally have ambition but leaders like Napoleon and Adolf Hitler gained too much ambition that eventually led to their downfall. For example, in the play **Macbeth written by Shakespeare, a prime example of an excessive amount of ambition is displayed through both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth’s actions. Essentially, Macbeth becomes power hungry and goes on a rampant killing spree that causes Lady Macbeth and Macbeth to be overcome with guilt. They both contain an excessive amount of desires due to their ultimate goal being for Macbeth to be crowned king.
Ambition will often be perceived by people as a good and positive word. Saying things like he is ambitious to get to his goals. But ambition is also a very dark and powerful thing to feel and can cause people to become corrupt. Driven by her own desire to be Queen, Lady Macbeth persuades Macbeth to commit the murder, by challenging his manhood and often reminding him that it is, in fact, his destiny.

Macbeth has generally regarded as a tragedy of ‘ambition’, and it is to be considerable extent. Over-ambition does act as a determining passion in Macbeth. But, even more than that, we can say this play is a study of fear. Although it is ambition which leads Macbeth and Lady Macbeth to commit the murder of Duncan, it is not an ambition but fear that is analyzed in Macbeth.
