A serial killer is a person who commits a series of murders, often with no apparent motive and typically following a characteristic, predictable behavior pattern. Most serial killers often lack empathy and guilt, and most often become egocentric individuals; these characteristics classify certain serial killers as psychopaths. Amelia dyer was born in Bristol, England to Sarah and Samuel Hobley. Her dad was a master shoemaker, while her mother was suffering from severe brain damage. Her mother had a mental illness caused by typhus. She had to care for her mother and in the process of that she witnessed her violent fits. Her mother end up dying when; she was only eleven years old in 1848.

Her mother’s mental illness was the breaking point for her. She heard voices and tried to attempt suicide. She was an alcoholic and was addicted to laudanum.

She gave them an opiate drug to keep them sedated and let them starve to death. She realized killing the children immediately would be easier and safer than putting them to slow death. She started strangling them with a dressmaking tape and threw the bodies in the river Thames. Her first victim was Doris Marman a four month old baby. The second victim was Harry Simmons a 13 month old baby. The last victim was Helena fry her age was unknown but she was around the age one year old or less. They used young women as a decoy in order to capture Amelia Dyer. She was designed to help the detectives to positively link Dyer to her business activities.
