Amelia Earhart Aviator Pioneer Aviator, pilot, and hero are three words that describe Amelia Earhart. Many people know that Amelia Earhart was an aviator, but she was so much more. As a well known aviationist pioneer, Amelia Earhart had the will to prove that women could equal men in flying and in life itself. She left a lasting legacy as an aviator who attempted to fly across the Atlantic Ocean after breaking many records of other flights to many places. The early life of Amelia Earhart showed that she was adventurous. Women were not known to be as good as men were in academics and many things. So Amelia Earhart thought that she could prove that not only men were brave. Although she payed one thousand US dollars in order to learn the basics of flying, it really payed off later in her life. Her teachers, Frank Hawks, John Monijo, and Neta Shook taught her how to fly and that soon began her career. Amelia Earhart became a social worker at Pension House in Boston then taught at Purdue University. After she got a better plane or “her favorite” plane which was a new twin engined Lockheed Electra and she went on most of her flights with this plane. This plane helped her feel more comfortable in flying and she loved it. Amelia Earhart has broken so many records. Some of them were, the first to solo from Los Angeles to Mexico City, From Mexico City to Newark airport, First American Woman to fly from America to Londonderry Ireland with a record of 15 hrs and 18 minutes. (Watson 23) The medals that she had earned were from when she was in Paris Amelia Earhart had gotten a medal, At Constitution Hall, President Hoover gave Amelia her gold medal of the National Geographic society, and the King of Belgium gave Amelia a medal as well.
