The text "Amelia Earhart" is a biography written by Barret Smith and is about the life of the pilot, Amelia Earhart. Earhart left a long-lasting legacy that still has people talking about her. Multiple reasons that made her work significant in her time are that she was the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean, and her umpteen record for speed and distance flying. To begin with, in 1927, Charles Lindbergh became the first person to fly beyond the Atlantic Ocean, but soon people started to babble about a woman also accomplishing this feat. She started off in Newfoundland, an eastern coast island off of Canada. She had planned to fly to Parris like another pilot named Charles Linderbergh, but because of the weather and issues with the plane, she landed in Ireland. This is substantiated in paragraph 9, where the author states, "She intended to fly to Paris like Charles Lindbergh had done five years earlier." Unfortunately, due to unfavorable weather conditions and mechanical issues, Earhart was unable to complete her transatlantic flight.
