Amelia Earhart
Amelia Earhart lived an extraordinary life. Her life of adventure started with her childhood and ended with her mysterious disappearance. What was her life like?
Amelia Earhart was born on July 24, 1897 in Atchison, Kansas. She had an independent spirit since she was little. She lived in several different places during her younger years. She and her sister, Grace Muriel Earhart, lived with their wealthy grandparents, Alfred and Harris Otis until Amelia was twelve. They moved around quite a bit, mostly in the the midwest. Amelia attended a private school when she was younger.

Her father lost his job due to a drinking problem. Because of his drinking problem, Amelia's mother left him taking Amelia and Grace with her. Amelia's sister,
Grace, is her only sibling. The two sisters were very close. They both lived with their grandparents Alfred and Harris until Amelia was twelve. Later in life, Amelia Earhart was in fact married. People tended to forget that she had a husband. He was a lot of help to Amelia as she started her aviation career. She married to George Palmer Putnam. He had to propose six times before she would agree. They married on February 7, 1931.
Amelia had a different view on marriage. She did not commit forever: “ I must exact a cruel promise and that is you will let me go in a year if we find no happiness together.”
(Amelia Earhart). She also told him she would not stop flying: “ Please let us not interfere with the others’ work or play.” (Amelia Earhart). Some said it was a marriage of convenience. Even though this is what people said, they did remain married.

It was a yellow second-hand airster biplane. She gave it the name “The Canary” and set out to make a name for herself.
Amelia began to get a name for herself when she flew from Hawaii to the mainland. She also flew other long distances. Amelia flew from Los Angeles to Mexico City then onto
New Jersey. She began to win distinguished flying awards.
Amelia was thirty-nine when she started her biggest flying challenge. .Amelia’s goal was to fly completely around the world. but before Amelia’s fortieth birthday when she had completed twenty-two thousand miles of her attempted flight around the world.
Amelia and her navigator suddenly disappeared somewhere between Lea, New Guinea, and Howland Island. The US Navy conducted the largest search they could for Amelia, but could not find her. There are still people searching for her remains to this day. People are training dogs to sniff out her bones.
There are many different theories on what could have happened to Amelia
Earhart. One of the most accepted theory is the “crash-n-sink” theory. This states that
