American food
American food is a huge part of American culture and history. America is a melting pot not only for people but also for food. The huge diversity of American foods started when different cultures moved in America, bringing their traditions with them. American food has more options, is healthier, and costs less than Mexican food.
There are numerous flavors and options with American food. Depending on where you are in America some of the choices may differ. American has been referred to as a melting pot, however it is not just for people it is also for their food. Some of the most popular are, steak, chicken, bacon, and pizza are just a few of the top foods eaten in America (Peppers, 2014). Some other popular foods include, cheese, potatoes, and eggs. There are different options for cooking everything from deep fat frying to barbecuing. According to the article Don’t Eat Out As Often, “The average American eats an average of 4.2 commercially prepared meals per week” (Hamm, 2014). Although Americans are known to be unhealthy, we are given all the resources to eat right. Organic foods are becoming more and more popular. “Organic food is food that is produced without the use of artificial or chemically formulated substances” (Wright, n.d.). Around 78 percent of Americans eat organic foods. Since a lot of American’s diet is fast food, restaurants are trying to change to be healthier and better as well. For example, McDonalds has the option as milk and apples in their kid’s meals. In addition, calories are now being shown on many menus. Although Americans are categorized as unhealthy eaters it is because they choose to eat the unhealthy stuff on the menu instead of the healthy
