Have you ever wondered what living the American dream means? The American dream has changed a lot over the years. My idea of an American dream is having a respectable job, house, and a decent vehicle will make me happy. In the book Raisin in the Sun, the way to be living the American dream was just being able to afford their own house. The American dream in the book The Great Gatsby, was having lots and lots of money and fancy items. Everyone has a different thought of an American dream because things have changed over the years. To me living the American dream means having a job you love, and a decent house with a decent car. For instance, you need an excellent job that you love so you can earn money to support either your family or yourself. In order to go to your job to earn money and go other places you want to go you need a decent vehicle to get you from place to place. You don’t need a fancy car you just need one that you can afford and it must not breakdown on the side of the road. Equally important you need to own a house you love because that is the last step to fully support yourself or a family. You or the ones you love need a place they can call home and be able to eat and sleep there. This book takes place right after the great depression, so most people were poor and couldn’t afford many things let alone owning a house. On that note, buying your own house back then gave them a sense of pride because they didn’t own many things on the own after the great depression period. On that same thought buying your own house back then brought families together for the reason that families used to live together during that time period. In conclusion, Raisin in the Sun has an American dream of owning their own
