A life of unfulfilled promises and freedom is something America is known for. Within this country, superiors have created the phrase, “The American Dream”. However, the American dream is a social construct, that society has tried to use to make America seem wonderful. This version of America isn’t the true reality that women face daily. The American Dream means that everyone within these borders has an equal opportunity for success and fulfillment through hard work and determination. How can someone truly say that women have an equal chance of success when they are treated as less than every other person? The American Dream is unattainable for women due to the inequality, sexualization, and the effects that these issues have on their mental well-being. …show more content…

The percentage of assaults that occurred within school walls was 39 percent (Gordon). American schools don’t provide enough protection for girls. Instead of mandating education on rape culture, Americans are more concerned with their high school football teams. Some people within the United States, however, would say that the American Dream is attainable for women because of women's suffrage and being able to have opportunities that men have. After protests of wanting women to have the same voting rights as a man does, Congress passed the 19th Amendment in 1919, and a year later the amendment was ratified giving women the right to vote (National Archives). This is a huge step towards equality for all human beings. There is also the Women's Bureau which was created in 1920, allowing for there to be standards and policies within workplaces to advance the opportunities for women. The Women's Bureau is something that is still used today to ensure safety within the workplace.
