The American Experience Throughout history, events have shape the perception of America and the American Experience. Whether shared by the world or only involving the United States, events like the Industrial Revolution, World War I, World War II, and the civil war have had a lasting impact on the country, its communities and its citizens. This impact is seen by the unique depiction of the American experience, which is unlike any other experience in the world. This domestic dispute was a dark time in American history. This fight over slavery spilt the county into two and had everlasting effects over the people. Some Americans were fighting for the right of others, while the others were fighting for economic stability. Communities were destroyed and numerous lives were lost, but in the end, the freedom of slaves was achieved and yet again America upheld the ideals of which it was founded. Equality for people has been a key issue for the United States, and American citizens will continue to fight until it is achieved. This expansion was not through the typical means of conquering a nation and taking over, but rather through trade and international relations. Some of these relations, the United states gained land, but compared to many other colonies under foreign rule, the subjects of US colonies were eventually seen as loyal to the US. A specific example of colonial discontent would be the British colonies. Many British colonies objected English rule, and eventually sought independence. This was different in the American colonies like Guam and Puerto Rico, who are still this day American territories. During this time, the US also fought on the behalf of countries who were not strong enough to defend themselves. The US was seen as a protector, therefore causing great pride among American citizens.
