The American Nurses Association (ANA) is one of the primary organizations of nursing that represents the interests of the registered nurse. It was founded in 1896 by delegates of ten different alumni associations. Their mission statement is, “Nurses advancing our profession to improve health for all.” They consider themselves the “voice of nursing,” and are the nation’s only full-service professional organization. The ANA advocates for health care reforms that would be able to guarantee all patients access to high-quality health care. Therefore, the organization is in strong support of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). ANA is also committed to growing nurses’ political leadership skills through the American Nurses Advocacy
