World war two in Europe started on September 1st, 1939 when Nazi Germany invaded Poland. The war was split into two sides the allied and the axis powers. The allied powers consisted of Britain, France, the USA, Poland, the Soviet Union and a group of smaller countries. The Axis powers consisted of Germany, Italy, Romania, Hungary and once again a group of smaller countries. This paper asks “How did the adaptations of allied technology lead to their eventual victory?”

The reasons the allied forces had to adapt was because early in the war the allies especially France, England and the Soviets suffered major defeats. First, we will look at how the English addressed German air superiority, a British plane known as the spitfire had some success against German planes and hurricanes which were ⅔ of the RAF (Royal Air Force) were heavily used and saw modest success. On the ground, the English used anti-air where on cloudy days was not very successful and they used barrage balloons which would interfere with low-flying bombers but once again these were not very successful as well. These fighter planes were the main force that held the Germans at bay during the battle of Britain which it could be argued that if they were knocked out then Germany would have taken all of Europe and would have been able to defeat the soviets. The British were able to stifle some of the Germans tanks superiority in the development of the Sherman Firefly this Sherman Firefly was a variant of the United states very successful tank the Sherman which saw lots of action in the European campaign. The other very successful British tank was the Comet IA 34 which entered into the war in 44 but even for the late entry, it had a lasting effect with its 77mm cannon. The British were able to provide their troops with better supplies thanks to their allies as a small island country they could not produce that much equipment but a large country like the United states could provide the extra equipment needed by the British. They got their other equipment from their commonwealth's of Canada, India, Australia, and New Zealand. These British tanks and well-equipped soldiers fared well during battle.
