The age of Romanticism was a very influencial time in American Literature. It was a time of growth in the U.S. and that growth fueled imagination and individuality for literature. The American Romantic movement changed all of the rational ways that were set in place during the age of Reason. This period was more about nature, spirituality and how even the common man was a hero.
Individuality was a very important part of Romanticism. The people of America wanted to find themselves seperate from the the Europeans. This showed up frequently in literature. William Blake believe that Nature shielded each individual and people needed to learn to fight. In Walt Whitman's Song of Myself really praised the importance of single soul and nature. Emily
