The consistent thread of service throughout my life has initiated my desire to serve with AmeriCorps. As a child, my life-long visions consisted of helping others. Around eight years old, I recall using information learned from a Girls Scouts camp to plan a campaign to help those in poverty. Years later, I committed to executing monthly community service projects. I spearheaded food drives in my local community and made jewelry for low-income women to wear during job interviews. These experiences led to service opportunities focused on team-based service and advocacy.I collaborated with individuals to sustain a tutoring program at my local Boys and Girls Club of America and started joining community-based organizations such as Kiwanis International. As time progressed, service participation throughout my undergraduate experience contributed to my desire to serve as an AmeriCorps volunteer. As an undergraduate, I took advantage of opportunities to mentor first-generation science majors and obtained the role as a resident assistant for the Civics and Service Living-Learning community. Working in teams has expanded my community involvement to various regions of the United States and beyond. By partnering with organizations such as Clemson’s Engineers for Developing Countries and The Hope for Haiti Foundation I have assisted in restoring the health infrastructure of Haiti, a place in which I have never visited. By collaborating with organizations who possess similar community outreach goals, I have acquired a vision for healthy and thriving communities.I want to join the AmeriCorps program in order to further develop skills needed to reform healthcare. By joining the AmeriCorps program, I hope grow as a community leader. Healthy and thriving communities stem from the team-based model of the AmeriCorps
