Dylan Jones Classic Case Study: Dave Pelzer Child Psychology In the novels A Child Called It and The Lost Boy the author Dave Pelzer, describes in great and horrific detail the abuse, trials, and tribulations he faced while growing up and what he had to do to overcome it all. There is an sufficient amount of evidence to support the theme, never give up. While it is true that the theme, “never give up” is a evident theme in the text, it is not necessarily the best theme shown in the text. The theme, it is possible to survive against all odds, remains the most prevailing theme in the text. In the story, it states, “Behind him, the whole island was shuddering with flame. Other boys were appearing now, tiny tots of them, small, brown, with the distended bellies of small savages.
These themes are the main ones because they are exhibited through Connie, who had made naive decisions and was blinded by her own arrogance. This in turn placed her in a position she was unable to handle: figuring out how to deal with Arnold Friend, but ultimately failing and having been thrusted in a situation where she was unable to think clearly or fight
His father’s “performative worry about his mom is just a way for Luke’s dad to rope her into his emotional arcology of self-doubt, hunger for validation, generally what you call a martyr complex” (Irvine, 6). His father uses these emotional manipulation tactics to ensure his family remains in the cage he has spent years building. All the money Luke’s father has, makes him stray away from the life he knew by trying to find a new identity in a different group of people. While playing soccer in his supervised, approved soccer park, he thinks about the kids in the other soccer park who don’t have these same standards. “Luke doesn’t say anything, but he pokes at the little lump in the back of his arm where his KidChip nestles between deltoid and triceps.
Children are an important focus in both stories I see these children being used to symbolize states of happiness in both stories. I also believe they are vital necessities in each story because they are

In life, people of all ages have to follow rules for many different aspects of life. There will not be a time when there are no rules. That is a very important theme that two books follow. The books are titled, The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin and Ashes, Ashes by Jo Treggiari. Both authors clearly explain the sources that inspired their themes in the two completely separate books.
This theme is applicable as we find that Death is always coming for Liesel. Our first example for this is on page three we find the quote, “***HERE IS A SMALL FACT*** You are going to die.” This is an excellent example because Death is bluntly telling us that he is coming for everyone,
Luke feels left out and should have a choice to be a citizen and go outside no matter what the law says. The tone in the “Among The Hidden” is sad and lonely. It is sad and lonly because Luke is forced to stay inside a black room with no windows or light. The darkness of his room explains the sad and scary tone. “He hadn’t left the house in a week now, and could almost hear the outdoors calling him.
The movie A Simple Plan by Scott Raimi is ironic due to how the plan did not turn so very simple. The time is setting is during a time where the money was looked at differently, it was during a time when “the American dream” (Berardinelli) was motivation for people to get money. In the opening credits of Sam Raimi's film, Hank’s voice-over states his father believed there were certain things a man needed to be completely happy. “A wife he loves. A decent job.

The theme of the American Dream is raised at the very start of the book, where the novella is introduced with the panning landscape of the Salinas Valley before closing in on George and Lennie.
