Amy Winehouse was the throwback 50’s singer who many called “Cherry.” Amy was an icon who young girls looked up to. Despite her successful run in the music business, she had the dark demons that she never overcame. Cameras always pointed at her bad side waiting for her next move. Amy Winehouse should be remembered for her legacy, not her demons.

Winehouse was born on September 14th, 1983 to her mother, Janis Winehouse, and Mitch Winehouse. Amy grew up surrounded by music and jazz musicians in her family. As a child Amy’s mother self-diagnosed her with Tourette syndrome, Janis says, “ She would just burst random sayings at the most random times.” (My Daughter Amy) As a teenager Amy at school she was not only loud, she was intimidating, Amy veered between playing the class clown and being spiteful and domineering and if I’m honest, a bully.” Says Janis. Blake was a heavy drug addict and introduced Winehouse into many drugs that easily became an addiction for her. Winehouse and Civil snuck off and got married on May 18, 2007. In 2008 a video released on YouTube of Winehouse smoking crack, she was then sent to rehab for only a couple of days till she was released.
