This is an analytical summary of the article ‘An ally for all the years to come’: why Australia is not a conflicted US ally by Nick Bisley, which was published in Australian Journal of International Affairs in 2013.
The main idea in this article is that the alliance between Australia and The USA is permanent and China is not a threat to this relationship. Since security bond with USA is more important than the economic bond with China and is based on logical calculation. He has provided many useful information on Australia and The USA alliance. He correctly argues about importance of security bond with The USA and mentions that Australia is a big country with a little population and needs to reinforce its security (p.403). So its alliance with The USA is correct decision. Also, his explanation about the costs and benefits of this alliance and the reasons that Australia has chosen to tighten its bond with the USA is clear and explicit.
However, by reading this article some questions come to mind that need to be answered. Firstly, as Bisley says the USA and China are two rivals and Australia have to choose one of them (p.404). The question is how Australia can keep its relationship with both of them? Since economic relations are as important as security. China is a very important and powerful economic pole in the world and it is not wisely to say if china cuts its relations with Australia, Australia can trade with other countries (Bisley, p 414). Australia needs to find a way to save its relationship with both the USA and
