An American House Play Analysis

A play that I went to see is “An American House” directed by Lisa Nanni-Messegee, it is about a house that stood still for two centuries, and in which many historical events occurred in that certain home. The play was very interesting because there is a limited time within each scene, which I thought was really cool. It also provided traveling through time and going back to American histories and the same setting, which was the house, remained the same. They can, however try to acquire more actors and actress to play other roles, so a certain character can focus on an individual role and commit to it. My impression changes in every scene, because it provides different atmospheres in the house. “An American House” tremendously told many great small stories about different historical events throughout a course of time. With only a small amount of time, they are capable of creating a great and touching story. I especially adored the last scene in the second act in which the widow recounts her life in the home in which she raised a family. The events are beautifully put in the right timeline and made it easy to understand. The way they talk about historical events in just one setting was something I’ve never seen before and found it very interesting. There is a limited time within each scene and with only a great amount of time can they produce a very touching and interesting story. Since their acting was very well rehearsed, it provided the emotions it needed for the audiences to feel the same emotions the characters had. Even though they were short in characters they still managed to capture the audiences’ attention. Overall Nanni-Messege did a wonderful job directing the play with only a limited amount of resources and
