At the end of the day, Foster portrays to us that literally anything can be a considered a quest. He emphasizes the five elements that create a quest which are a quester, a place to go, a stated reason to go there, challenges and trails in route, and a real reason to go there. By default, Foster states that the real reason for any kind of quest is to obtain self-knowledge. I feel that, in the text, Voltaire portrayed Candide's quest through a series of tragic, difficult, and spiteful events that ultimately played a major role for Candide to achieve self-knowledge.
