It was a normal day at church when John Wilkes Booth was introduced to Dr. Samuel A. Mudd. A month later they met again as Dr. Mudd was kind enough to find a horse for president Lincoln’s assassin. This is evidence that Dr. Mudd knew John Wilkes Booth before the assassination. Not long after this horrific event, the conspirators were at Dr. Mudd’s farm. It was at this time that Dr. Mudd was nice enough to show hospitality to these men even though he knew that one of them was Abraham Lincoln’s killer.
Not only did Dr. Mudd house these men, but he also gave them directions and lied directly to Union soldiers about their whereabouts. It states in the book Chasing Lincoln’s Killer that Dr. Mudd was pro slavery and anti Union. It also states that Dr. Mudd gave the conspirators directions to another man who was also anti Union. After they left Union soldiers showed up at Mudd’s farm for questioning. Dr. Mudd gave them false directions to buy the murderers time. This proves that Dr. Mudd was against the Union and was okay with the president’s assassination.

Mudd is guilty. They may also say that Dr. Mudd was in the wrong place at the wrong time. However, there is enough proof to allow us to see what this man did. It is easy to infer that he was not completely innocent.
To conclude, the assassination of the president was a major event in American history. It was the actions of conspirators such Dr. Mudd that made this event so big. There is too much evidence and too many sources that proves that Dr. Mudd made the wrong decisions. It is because of this that he rightfully served life in
