Every piece of literature has a theme from Novels to poems and even songs. In the novel Tangerine, by Edward Bloor, Paul fisher has been scared of his older brother Erik for his whole life, too scared to speak up for himself. He also has been living a lie that his family told him about how he became visually impaired. His parents thought that they were protecting him from the truth. Throughout this novel Paul Fisher learns the importance of honesty and standing up for himself.
In Nothing But The Truth, Philip Malloy received suspension after being removed from class for "singing" the national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner, during the morning announcements. Throughout the story of Nothing But The Truth, the media supports Philip more than the school district, but if the "truth" turned into a court case, who would be successful, Philip Malloy v. Harrison School District? Philip Malloy would be effective in taking the court case because he was not trying to cause a disturbance in Ms. Narwin's homeroom class. In the novel, Philip states“ Yeah. The play by Lorraine Hansberry , A Raisin In The Sun, utilizes the use of allusions in order to supply the reader with historical background. Allusions create emphasis in the play, this allows the reader to understand and appreciate the text. Within the small details of the play, the use of allusions deepen the contextual support of the text. While reading A Raisin In The Sun, various allusions appear throughout the play. These allusions reference the outside world, but also give emphasis on the importance of the piece of the text references.
Everyone wants to fit in either in school or at work and in the short essay “White Lies”, Erin Murphy discusses how a little girl is being bullied at school and what she does to prevent it. In the fourth paragraph it states, “ All of this changed in mid-October when Connie’s father got a job at a candy factory, news Connie announced tentatively one rainy day during indoor recess” (Paragraph four). Because Connie was an albino she was viewed differently in everyone’s eyes. She decided to announce to everyone that her father worked in a candy factory, therefore everyone would like her. When the news came out everyone started to like Connie because she bought everyone free candy.

Hassenberry wrote her play about a poor African American family by the name of the Yongers. Mrs. Younger, Walter Lee, and Beneatha all have there own individual dreams.
There is no way to know if a decision that was made is the right or the wrong decision. Making decisions is apparent in "A Raisin in the Sun", among all characters. Some decisions made by the characters work out in the end and other decisions, causes anger towards the family members. Throughout the play, Mama makes several life-changing decisions. In the text “A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry, the author uses the writing strategy of conflict to develop the central idea of how oneself can become selfish when trying to achieve the American dream. The text shows that the central idea is selfishness because circumstances are presented where various characters fail to take into consideration others while seeking their dreams. For example, Walters says, “ Who the hell told you you had to be a doctor? If you so crazy ’bout messing round with sick people, then go be a nurse like other women-or just get married and be quiet…. ’’. This example of greed shows that the ambition to obtain a dream brings out the selfishness is true in the instance of Walter.
The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway takes place in the 1920s in Paris. The novel starts out focusing on Robert Cohn, while the rest of it is narrated by Jake. He is an expatriate, is madly in love with Brett, and has a war injury. Jake Barnes was raised Catholic and has had an on-again-off-again fling with Brett. He talks about Brett and his religion differently than how he thinks about them.
The world stereotypes rich people as rude, stuck up and selfish. Ever wonder why? Studies from Yale, The New York Times, TED and more have concluded, money changes everything. The author, Lorraine Hansberry, was the first playwright to produce a play that portrayed problematic social issues. Racism and gender equality are heavily addressed throughout the play. Even though we still have these issues today, in the 1950’s and 60’s the issues had a greater part in society. Racism and gender have always been an issue in society, A Raisin in the Sun is an important piece of American history during that time period.

Throughout the whole book Holden calls everybody a phony, he thinks that everybody is fake. One example is Ackley. He begins to tell everybody about his summer and how he almost hooked up with a girl.
In Tobias Wolff’s short story “The Liar,” the protagonist, James, lies to help him construct a new identity outside of his family. James tells morbid lies about his mother in order to distance himself from her. Since, the loss of his father, James no longer associates with people who are like him. The lies started after his father’s death and his mother starts noticing how much differently he was acting. Since his mother is treating him like she is disappointed in him, James begins to devolve into a state of repressed bitterness.
In the next few lines the speaker says he did not hit the friend, he simply pretended as if he didn’t hear him. That says a lot about the speaker, it shows he is wise and does not let words affect him.
Lying has not been formally considered morally wrong or right regardless of the severity. Although it’s near impossible to go through a whole day without even stretching the truth once and decide which types of lies are okay or not. Stephanie Ericsson uses strong metaphors and personal experiences in “The Ways We Lie” to justify the use of our everyday lying. This unbiased essay will help readers decide whether it’s okay to lie on a daily basis. Ericsson starts out with saying she told the bank that her deposit was in the mail even though she hadn't written out the check (495).
Identity is who someone is as a person. People have different views of what identity is and what can be done to find it. Identity can be your actions and thoughts. It’s what makes someone unique and different from anyone else. The Bible has its own view of identity as well.
