When I was 12 years old, my mom took my friends and I to the Haunted Hayride. Unfortunately, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. We got onto the hayride and there was a massive horse with a boy riding it who was headless and mean following us for about 2 minutes. For being in Middle School, I was pretty freaked out when we got off the trailer to walk through a corn maze , when then came a guy wearing a mask with a chainsaw chasing us out!!!! It was an exciting and horrid night for my friends and I. The day had suddenly transformed into a horrific night , but it was an exciting experience with my friends before this began. Transformation obviouslys create fear. This can be seen in the following three stories as well. Oate’s “Where is Here” uses transformation of an ordinary person and an ordinary setting to show us how easily circumstances can change.’ Julio Cortazar’s “ House Taken Over” and Arthur Tress “Dream Collector” also demonstrates an ordinary setting and person(s) throughout the story. Joyce Carol Oates’ “Where is Here’s” transformation goes from being an ordinary house to a supernatural and spooky house. This is effective because when people look at these photos they can question whether or not they are terrifying or if they all have something in common with each other. An example is photo three of the “Young Boy and Hooded Figure, New York City, 1971”(84). The picture shows a little boy wrapped in a hooded person’s arms, but no face or details are showed on the person that is in the hooded costume. Therefore, the transformation was effective because the readers are mysterious about what is behind or in the hooded black
