There have been many books about what the future might be like, and many about how it could go wrong, but few were as popular or as ominously real as Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury. While the book is marvel, the epigraph contained at the beginning is also quite a powerful message. Written by the Spanish poet Juan Ramon Jimenez, it reads “If they give you ruled paper, write the other way.” As one might guess, this is not meant to be taken literally, but rather as a representation of the characters and society of Fahrenheit 451, and to an extent the people and society of the real world. Jamaica Kincaid illustrates the complexity of her own circumstance through her own literary devices. Kincaid builds the plot and helps the audience grasp the intricacy of Kincaid's predicament by using literary devices including internal conflicts, details, and locales. Kincaid also used strategies like extreme repetition and imagery to highlight the complexity of the narrator's predicament. Kincaid illustrates the complexity of the narrator's condition by utilizing a literary device like internal struggle.
Character Development Some people read because they love to, some people read because they have too ,but when people read they may not notice what the author is doing. Authors use many literary devices that make the piece you are reading worthwhile. Literary devices do many things whether it is to develop a character; build structure or even describe how a person looks. In the story "The Birthday Party" by Katherine Brush explains how a couple in their late thirties celebrate a birthday party. The wife of the man planned a surprised party to celebrate his birthday. Brush utilized the literary device of caricature to describe the physical features of the couple.

Alliteration was the literary device used in Beowulf's Last Battle in the sentence "Then Beowulf rose, still brave, still strong and with his shields at his side, and a mail shirt on his breast, strode calmly, confidently, toward the tower". The repeated letter was "s" in the words still, strong, shields, side, shirt, and strode.

Petry used and showed that the wind was harsh and cruel by using personification and imagery. Ann Petry establishes an uncertain and cruel feeling in the story. In the novel Monster, by Walter Dean Myers, the author uses literary devices to express situations, emotions, thoughts, or further express the characters and setting. Monster is a story about a 16 year old adolescent named Steve Harmon who is being charged with murder of a liquor store clerk. It is unknown as to if he was involved or not since the story is in limited third person and we must rely on the information given to us by the narrator. I have chosen to write about the historical context, mood, setting and point of view used in Monster.

To summarize this text it states that Joseph of Arimathea was getting ready for the burial of the Son of God. They were adding vast amounts of aromas and ungruents, in which the same time Death entered and asked if the body was ready to be taken away. He was looking for the soul of the body for two days but couldn’t find it.” This has never happened before so he is surprised. There is a lot of violent commotion going on in this world and he still doesn’t understand how can not find the body.
