The book divided into four sections, which make the sisters to have their own sections. The story took place in Dominican Republic during President Trujillo’s dictatorship government.
In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez is a historical fiction novel about the tragedy of the late Mirabal sisters. Though the book is acclaimed by parents, students, and teachers for it’s fictional adaptation to the historical moments of that time, sadly it was challenged due to its diagram of how to build a time bomb. Port Washington is a school district with a goal of furthering students intelligence through literature and ensuring the safety of their students and families. A school in that district, Paul D. Schreiber High, had this novel on the list of books to be read in sophomore English class in 2000, the book was voted to be banned because of its easy descriptions of malice. This book is an opportunity to enrich the student's

Every criminal justice agency has their own mission statement or operational philosophy and some have Social Equity concepts, while others do not. First is the operational philosophy of the Knoxville Police Department, where I have been employed for the last eighteen years. It embodies Social Equity and states, “(1.) Do the right thing; (2.) Do your best every day; and (3) Treat others the way you want to be treated”
Entry 9: Defiance According to the UN Secretary-General, “In 2012, almost half of all women who were victims of international homicide worldwide were killed by an intimate partner or family member,” (“Violence Against Women”) while men only accounted for six percent. November 25th marks the International Day Against Violence Towards Women as well as the deaths of the three Mirabal sisters. The novel In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez describes their journey to serve as “models for women fighting against injustice of all kinds” (Alvarez 324). In the Time of the Butterflies can be looked upon through a Feminist lens by analyzing how women defy and overcome their stereotypical gender roles.
After reading "The Death of a Moth" by Annie Dillard I can conclude that this essay has a second meaning to it. I can see that Dillard wrote this essay with a lot of details so readers could understand what she was saying or to make readers imagine what she experienced. This essay that Dillard wrote talks about how she watched a moth burn for over two hours. Dillard implied that the moth still meant something even after it was burned. This is why I think that this essay that Dillard wrote has a second meaning to it.
Picture books are an ideal format to introduce students to the wonderful world of reading. One of today’s masters of picture books is Patricia Polacco, a prolific author whose words and pictures have inspired and delighted countless children. In fact, many of her books are autobiographical in nature, thereby allowing her to share her own stories and experiences with her readers. Two such titles are Thank You, Mr. Falker, in which she pays homage to the special teacher who helped her learn to read, and Something about Hensley’s, a tribute to the magical general store and its equally marvelous shopkeeper in her hometown. Heartwarming narratives and charming artwork are characteristic of all of Polacco’s books, and these two are no exception.

Throughout the story, the narrator makes statements such as, “There was not a sound in the classroom, except for Miss Ferenczi’s voice, and Donna DeShano’s coughing. No one even went to the bathroom” (Baxter 140). The children are interested and engaged in hearing what she has to say. The fourth graders value the idea that Miss Ferenczi is trying to impart: that learning can be fun and
They chatted, laughed, and socialized with the new teacher. Their manners were smooth, their clothes were nice. It was a very special occasion for them, and a milestone for the kids. Some of the parents were so influential … being the teacher for those kids could mean a lot of back-door favors.” ( Chen, 2001, p.13).

The teacher will give some indication that they are ready to begin the lesson and students will normally sit down and respect the teachers wishes, again it is a mutual respect from and to both learners and teacher/s. It is this respect that will develop into the creation of a
Everyone leads different lifesytles and varying experiences, but no matter how diffrering a humans life is, it all ends with death. The essay “The Death of The Moth” was published posthumously in 1942, a year after Virginia Woolf lost a battle with depression and mental illness, and at age 59 committed suicide. Virginia Woolf 's "The Death of the Moth" shows the audience the power of death through a short narration about everyday, yet very symbolic moth. Woolf uses her own experience of watching a moth die to apply it to a larger theme. Woolf connects a simple moths lifespan to paint a gorgeous picture of “life” and then destroys it right in front of the audience 's eyes, to leave a lasting impression of Woolf 's perception of life and death.
I started doing my field Experience in Lime Kiln Elementary school where I shadowed Mr. Mikalov, a fifth grade teacher, When I first walked into his classroom it was so colorful and full of artworks, student works and inspirational quotes I felt happy walking into his classroom so I would imagine what a fifth grader would feel like. Mr.Mikalov was very generous in showing me around the classroom where they have their group work, reading area on the rug. He showed me the schedule they follow every week, they do math every day from 12:13 to 12:55 and have lunch every day at 11:26- 12:08 and off course I took a picture of it to know when and what they are doing that time. Mr.Mikalov introduced me to the principal who is very nice and welcomed
