Many kinds of colour have a various meaning. Varieties of colour produce many differences interpretation of each colour. It happens to the play entitled “Am I Blue?” by Beth Henley. In the title, interpretation of “Blue” is not just ordinary colour. Blue in this play`s context shows a condition of loneliness, depression, sadness, sorrow or fear by showing those condition trough characterization. This “Am I Blue?” work by Beth Henley is a play which has a comedy genre. This play entertains the reader or the audience of a play through behaviour presented in John Polk as a male character and Ashbe Williams as a female character, those two characters are the main character in this play. Characterization is one of elements of fiction in a drama, due to the fact that I found, this essay will be focused on the characters of this play.
This play is focused on two teenagers who have their own different trouble of their life who meet together and has their chance to share their own stories. Their trouble is quite similar because both john and ashbe at that time were experiencing ”blue feelings”. John Polk, a weirdo seventeen years old boy, wants to be accepted by his brother’s college fraternity by having an intercourse with the prostitute, but in fact he is too afraid or fears to do that kind of thing.
