The story ‘All summer in one day’ is about school children that live on planet Venues. Unlike earth, Venues is always pouring with rain but the sun only comes out for two hours every seven year. All the children are excited to see the sun especially, Margot who had lived on earth but moved to Venues because of her parents. Despite Margot’s desperation to see the sun she does not end up seeing it because of the cruel actions of her classmates. Ray Bradbury uses descriptive language when he talks about Margot’s appearance ‘the rain had washed out the blue from her eyes and the red from her mouth and the yellow from her hair.’ Although, Margot was born on earth you would not think that the rain would affect her but it actually does. On the other had she protests for her rights when one of the boys claims that Margot did not write a poem on the sun “I did, said Margo I did.” Showing two different sides to her as she does not really care about the children bullying her but when it comes to the sun because she feels very strong about it she reacts in a different way. The sun being one of the main character figure types although, it is only comes out every seven years is still most mentioned. The sun is portrayed in a simple form ‘gold or a yellow crayon’. The simplicity shows the relationship between the children, as he uses the word ‘crayon’ that relates with infants and young primary school children as they use this more often to draw pictures. This meaning that it’s more likely that they would describe the sun in the way. Bradbury uses interesting language to engage the reader as he interprets the rain ‘ awoke to the tatting drum’ Bradbury is comparing the rain to a drum banging none stop on the window everyday from the minute they wake up till they go to
