My overall reaction to the narrative when I read And of Clay Are We Created was a sense of heartbreak. It was heartbreaking to watch Carle battle with PTSD and Azucena clinging on the tire for dear life while the bodies of her dead relatives held onto her feet. I would say that the story's overall tone is restless. In essence, the narrator walks us through her actions and inner thoughts so that we may understand what is occurring to Azucena and Carle. The lover of the narrator, Carle, is so intensely concerned that she wants to learn as much as she can about the situation. The narrator expresses her concern for Carle's well being and the girls' survival by saying, "I could not endure the the wait home, so I went to National Television," demonstrating how the story's general tone is one of anxiety while the community as a whole is concerned about the mudslide victims (Isabel Allende, And of …show more content…
As previously stated, Azucena perishes after becoming caught in mud as a result of a mudslide, whereas Anders perishes after making snarky comments. Both stories also have a flashback scene. In the story And of Clay We Are Created, Carle's PTSD is triggered, forcing him to suffer flashbacks of his traumatic childhood experiences. In Bullet in the Brain, Anders gets shot in the head, which prompts him to have a brief flashback of his youth, when he was carefree and nonjudgmental. This kind of link between experiencing flashbacks and the subject of remembering the past and dread also helps to the connection. The narratives are terrified by the heist and by witnessing a 13-year-old give up and die after sinking into the
