People have different interpretations of fortunes, such as inner values and outer values. Many believe that outer values are the most important aspect, which is justifiable considering that the outer values are the first thing we notice. We are born with a set of fortunes in advance, but in order to find them, you must search for it. Those fortunes will determine your destiny in life and will act like a road to find yourself. In the short story “The Journey to the Brothers Farm” Annelie, the main character, goes through a journey to find her fortunes. She is determined at start, but a chain of events changes her course and puts her in a different mindset. As said, the short story is told by the main character, Annelie, and takes place in South Africa. She owns a store that goes by the name Louw Store that is located in 37 Main Street, Bultdorp. The store is run by herself since her husband Vernon Louw passed away three years ago. We do not get any further information concerning her husband. According to her flashback in the start of the text, her appearance is not a fortune, which essentially means that she looks hideous . She grew up on Bloumeer Farm with her family, and that is when she met Thabo Kefentse. He is African and has worked for her family, and his father was their Head Herdsman, but started working for Krugers when he was about sixteen.
