In “Unplugged: The Myth of Computers in the Classroom,” David Gelernter suggests the limit of technology use in the classroom. Over that past several years, technology has advanced quite a bit. This new outbreak of technology is beneficial in some ways but Gelernter feels that technology is replacing the ways of teaching. He sees the significance of the subject and offers much visual analysis which helps the reader take more caution in using technology while in the classroom. Gelernter feels that technology builds a wall that enables students to build strong, basic skills.
She states that technology can also be used in school. She addresses that moms are trying to protect their children from technology and there are the dads who are trying to embrace it and tell the kids to use it because it has its benefits. She also mentions that it is a very urgent question when a lot of schools are now adding using technology to a daily basis and that helps prove her argument about the benefits of technology. She uses evidence that states that more than 80% of school districts will start doing that, which shows how technology has a positive impact on schools and education. “Yet, according to the latest findings from the research firm Grunwald Associates, barely half of U.S. parents agree that mobile technology should play a more prominent role in schools.”
But, only if it is carefully monitored. For children with disabilities, it can be a means to connect with other persons - with the outside world. Technology allows non-verbal students to select pictures, or a sequence of pictures, to create sentences to make requests; it can give these students an independence that helps them to gain confidence and learn the skills necessary to function successfully in everyday life. However, I do fear that with excessive use, our children are losing the ability to live in the present and that this is threatening the completeness of self, and the understanding of cause and effect. As technology is so prevalent in our time, I believe that, as educators, we need to use it wisely and teach our students to do the same.
In “Technology in Today’s Classroom: Are You a Tech-Savvy Teacher?”, Stephanie Hicks successfully argues, using logical examples supported by reliable sources and observations, that teachers should integrate technology into education. After stating her main claim, Hicks begins her argument by countering the idea that technology decreases attention spans. She writes, “Research done by Sesame Street . . . found that children who seem to be inattentive and distracted during activities are often ‘soaking up’ just as much information as those who appear completely engaged” (189). By citing a reputable source, which supports the idea that technology does not cause distraction, Hicks strengthens her argument that technology is beneficial.
The writer Matt Richtel in the article ‘Technology Changing How Students Learn, Teachers Say’ outlines the stand of professionals on how technology affects learning. The article is about teachers’ input on issues of technology and education. The writer introduces the article by generalizing a common belief about the negative impact of technology, stating that it interferes with the learner’s ability to persevere. He avoids giving personal opinion. He states that, according to researchers, teachers give subjective views about technology.
“Teachers must take the time to evaluate and select technology and media for the classroom, carefully observe children’s use of the materials to identify opportunities and problems, and then make appropriate adaptations.” The next essential element of appropriate use of technology and interactive media is individual
It is a great way for them to learn. A reason why students should use technology is the technology would help them stay engaged. Most students today would most likely fall asleep in class while writing notes or the students will start distracting other students. It isn’t that these students just want to look at a screen, they want to be doing something on a computer while being able to talk and associate themselves with their friends.
Technology in the classroom is essential to modern education requiring teachers to have the proper knowledge to integrate it into the classroom correctly. The measurement of how a student receives, collaborates, constructs, meets goals and creates authentic learning opportunities are seen in the technology integration matrix. Integration of technology into education can allow for a more meaningful lesson and diverse learning opportunities for students. If a teacher provides the opportunity to implement technology into the classroom efficiently, it will enable students to access information from anywhere even if they are unable to attend class or require extra time outside of class to fully understand a new concept they have been taught. During
