nd including some of our own troops. It was made in 1968 and it was very popular. The second song is called Sam Stone by John Prine another Vietnam story even more depressing than the last song. It talks about a soldier who just came back from war with all these problems from its effect. He had a hole in his arm, both legs broken he was poor after the war didn't have money a job and had shrapnel still in him.
Ryder Adams Mrs. Holliday H English 10 4/6/2023 Anagrams, Hallucinating, and Poems The novel Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds is a story about the life experiences of a young man, Will, as a teenager in the hood. He is determined to get revenge for his brother, who was murdered. This novel tells the story of his experience finding out his brother was murdered and then going to avenge him. The Long Way Down is an excellent read, in my opinion, due to its poetic composition and descriptive, minute-long format.
“Became” by Atmosphere and My Child Atmosphere’s song “Became” tells the story of a man’s worry, fear, and anxiety over another person’s life path. Ultimately realizing that the person has taken his own path through life, one where the author cannot follow. The lyrics of this song parallel the relationship I have had with my son growing up. My son was born with an innate wonder of the world and the confidence and independence to see it through.
The Heroism Within Middle-Earth The stereotypical hero is typically depicted with motivation, intelligence, and kindness which are evident throughout Bilbo Baggin’s adventures through Middle-Earth. In J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel The Hobbit, Tolkien reinforces the hero archetype. Bilbo Baggins, the hobbit, transforms into a courageous and resourceful hero, affirming that heroism encircles determination, wit, and selflessness. Bilbo Baggins demonstrates determination as he overcomes obstacles and exemplifies his bravery against evil to reach the Lonely Mountain for the dwarves.
1. After viewing the documentary and listening to each song by Rodgers and Hammerstein the song that made the most impact on me was the song “Some Enchanted Evening.” The song consists of very smooth and romantic melodies. Due to that I am a hopeless romantic I really enjoy the song lyrics and melody. The song was very catchy that I ended up singing the song for the rest of my day.
Heartbreak Hotel is a song that was recorded by Elvis Presley and was written by a high school teacher named Mae Axton and a steel guitar player named Tommy Durden. It was recorded and released in January 1956 by RCA Studios. Elvis was only 21 and Heartbreak Hotel was his first song with the new record label RCA in Nashville, Tennessee. He recorded the song with his band the Blue moon boys. It was his first million-seller and the bestselling single of 1956.
While his parents listened to Stan Kenton and other remaining remnants of the Big Band era Jimmy Page discovered a different type of music. “Baby Let’s Play House” by Elvis Presley was the song that initially sparked his interest in learning to play guitar and by listening to other records on which guitarist Scotty Moore played. Ricky Nelson and guitarist James Burton and rocker Chuck Berry all had hit records while Page listened. By listening to artists whom he considered vibrant, his determination carried him through a series of apprenticeships after Neil Christian and the Crusaders in 1962. With Carter Lewis and the Southerners in 1963 he recorded “Your Momma’s
The concept of longing and love is presented in different ways by Rita Dove and Anna Swir in their poems. In “I’ll open the Window,” Anna Swir focuses on the opportunities that the future will bring upon ending a long, tiresome relationship. She employs poetic devices like personification, imagery, onomatopoeia, with a somber mood and reflection on her past relationship. On the contrary, “Flirtation” by Rita Dove conveys a feeling of hope and the joy of starting a new relationship through similes, metaphors, personification, and couplets. Both poems explore the idea of renewed hope that relationships bring either by starting a new one or ending an old one, while employing different stanza length, and creating different moods in the minds of the reader.
“What’s Going On” I believe protest music is any song that is associated with change or the defiance of a prior principle. It does not matter if the song or genre was written for the purpose of revolution or if the song is a rally cry or only meant to spread awareness, but if the lyrics and the feeling of the song invoke those ideas, it may be considered protest music. Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On” was written about the Vietnam War, but people choose to interpret the song as a cry for civil rights. A song does not need to begin as socially aware to be considered a protest song because it’s about how it’s interpreted by others and used.
The song Beds are Burning by Midnight oil is a political song about giving native Australian lands back to the the Pintupi. The Pintupi were one of the very last people to come from the desert. These people began voluntarily moving from the Gibson Desert to settlements around the 1930ss. Many more were forcibly moved during the 1950's and 1960's to the Papunya settlement after they did not leave in the 1930’s. In 1981 they left to return to their own country, and established the Kintore community.
Song: Title: Love the way you lie Singer: Eminem ft Rihanna What is the song about? “Love the Way you Lie” is about a couple who has an abusive relationship and some of the situations they experience. Hip-hop is an influential form of music that displays an artist’s honest and revealing story that many of the general public can relate to. One of the many songs that I can relate to is “Love Yourz” written by J Cole. The song talks about how Cole reflects on the most important things in life such as love and happiness. He realizes that the money and fame didn’t bring him the happiness he desired. To gain true happiness, he needed to appreciate himself and those that love him.
Similarly, to Billy Elliot, Tracy Chapman’s song fast car depicts the desperate need of a transition in order to develop strength, integrity and develop an open mind-set. It is established within the title “fast car” that the car is a symbolic image, representing the need of an escape from current life. Symbolically cars represent freedom. The allegory positions the audience to view that the situation is only temporary; a pathway leading to something positive. It is through the image of the car does it provide the opportunity to travel, move and to physically transition into a new life.
