In “Embarrassing Things” Shongaon finds certain conducts that the servants posses embarrassing. During the beginning a visitor was to be entertained except the servants were being overheard chatting without any restraint in a back room. Shonagon found this, “embarrassing to know that one’s visitor can overhear” (Shonagon 458). and also, “equally annoying if one is on a journey and hears the servants” (Shonagon 458) she considered them behaving “like ignoramus people”(Shonagon 458). She then continues describing actions similar to this that she finds to be quite embarrassing.
