The play, Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl, follows the story of a young couple, Eurydice and Orpheus. Eurydice leaves her wedding party for a few short moments and ends up falling off of a very tall apartment building, to her death. She travels down to the underworld, where stones of other dead people try to force her to conform to the ways of the underworld. Orpheus tries to rescue her, and the lord of the underworld grants him permission. He may rescue Eurydice if he does not turn back to make sure she is behind him. Eurydice follows, but startles Orpheus into turning around, therefore banishing Eurydice back to the underworld for her second death. Orpheus later joins Eurydice in the underworld, but because she died twice, they may not be together. The entire play is set in Modern Greece around the twentieth to twenty first century. Any scene containing the Interesting Man/Lord of the Underworld were outstanding. The actor really took on his role in all aspects, using a different voice and walk as everyone else. He used many dramatic pauses to give the play an extra effect of mystery. There were times throughout the show where he would drop off the stage and you could here him hit the ground hard. This really showed that he fully accepted his role and really became the character. The stage was decorated with large boxes and steps painted to look as though they were made of the same marble used to make statues in ancient Greece. Everything about the scenery made the play more interesting to watch. Another Character in the play who really stood out was the actor who portrayed Orpheus. His character was supposed to be light headed, spontaneous, and musical, and all aspects came
