Joe Foss has great responsibility because, he always knew what he needed to be done. He was always thinking one step ahead then what was planned. Tom Brokaw wrote a book called The Greatest Generation, about all the war heroes that took place in WWII; one of them mainly being Joe Foss. Joe Foss was always trying to do something and once said, “Combat is dangerous. It tends to interrupt your breathing process”.
When someone people see blind people, they think that they can't do anything, but working together with those that can see, blind people can achieve amazing things. Helen Keller fights for the right of the blind and persuade the reader to help them. Through the use of persuasive language and grammar, she creates a persuasive essay to help the blind. Through the use of pathos, ethos and logos, Helen Keller makes her argument stronger and more believable. In the fourth paragraph she uses pathos “ blind men will not be content to be numbered amoung those who will not, or cannot, carry burden on sholder or tool in hand.
Moreover, Klemens explains how the American work ethic has evolved from the Protestant work ethic, embracing hard work and dedication. Klemens uses Max Weber’s statement as an example to explain what the Protestant work ethic is. Weber states that “Focus on Work”, being “Unpretentious and Modest”, and being “Honest and Ethical” are the values that the Protestants believed to be the important aspects of the work ethic (123). The quest for happiness can be a long and winding path. One that Ethan didn’t know where to start from, or where to go when he got on it. He struggled in making key decisions to achieve happiness for himself. Instead of choosing happiness Ethan chose to isolate himself from others and not pursue his feelings although it went against his own moral code. In the novel “Ethan Frome” by Edith Wharton, the title character, Ethan, immolates his euphoria so he can obtain an improved quality of life for his family and to retain a superb reputation.

In her essay, “The Importance of Work,” from The Feminine Mystique published in 1963, Betty Friedan confronts American women’s search for identity. Throughout the novel, Betty Friedan breaks new ground, concocting the idea that women can discover personal fulfillment by straying away from their original roles. Friedan ponders on the idea that The Feminine Mystique is the cause for a vast majority of women during that time period to feel confined by their occupations around the house; therefore, restricting them from discovering who they are as women. Friedan’s novel is well known for creating a different kind of feminism and rousing various women across the nation.
In “A Good Man is Hard to Find” by Flannery O’Connor, the author portrays the grandmother as self-centered, dishonest and prideful woman. The grandmother is an old, southern, Caucasian woman who describes herself as a good woman. Throughout the story, O’Connor shows how the grandmother’s pride, and selfishness leads her to unappreciated her family. She does not care about them, she only cares about herself and what will benefit her. The grandmother’s selfishness, judgmental actions, dishonesty put the family in danger.
Hellen Keller once said that, “Although the worlds is full of suffering, it is full also of the overcoming of it.” In Hellen Keller’s autobiography, The Story of My Life, she wrote about her experiences with learning as a person who was both blind and deaf. In this passage taken from her book, she described her transformation from a child who fought fervently against learning, to an individual who yearned to understand and describe the world around her. Keller presented her shift in the passaged as one that altered her perspective of every aspect of her life, and awakened a sense of happiness and fulfillment within her. She portrayed this change through devices that allowed the reader to closely follow her experiences and understand the emotions that she carried with her
In the essay “Work Is a Blessing,” by Russel Honore the reader sees a strong argument for why work of any kind is a blessing. Honore begins “My father said “ya know, boy, work is a blessing.” (79) Throughout the story you can see the evolution of Honores belief in his father’s discussion that work is indeed a blessing, in place of a struggle. Living on a farm, Honore consistently helped out working with animals, gardening, etc.
Working is one of the many tasks that most adults have to endure. As for Phil, work was not just a task, but was a life commitment that took valuable time away. Ellen Goodman describes her stance of this issue in the piece, “The Company Man,” by employing repetition of important phrases and by showcasing the irony of Paul’s life. This conveys a sense of sympathy for Paul and his family and disapproval of his actions, who let his work consume his life, leading to his death. To begin, the use of repetition allowed Ellen Goodman to show her critical attitude and pity towards Phil.
It is hard for an individual to be compelled to serve others if they feel there is no reason for them. In the Address to the Nation on Labor Day, President Nixon expresses the idea that “The dignity of work, the value of achievement, the morality of self-reliance-none of these is going out of style.” This quote shows Nixon’s belief in the necessity of work and self worth. In contrasting opinion, Derek Thompson, the author of “A World Without Work” expresses the overarching concept that work will no longer be necessary due to the constant evolution of technology. Assessing the potential of a world without work comes to show that in a society where there is a minimal demand for duties, there will be a minimal desire for effort.
This essay tries to answer two philosophical points of view the Platonic which is more about living a good and just life or the Machiavellian which is summed up by; the means justify the ends. Both of these views have their own ethical way to bring about justice in the beholders eyes. The scene I’m going to use portrays the final part of the trial of Private Santiago's murder, Colonel Jessup is testifying and being cross examined by Lieutenant Kaffee, from the film A Few Good Men.
Tokumitsu’s article shows that she is very passionate about this subject, which could be that she is writing from her own experiences within the workforce and this helps make the reading more powerful. The constant battle for love in your labor can divide companies, but examining drive will determine getting what needs to be done or not. I. WHO AM I? Work is vital to one’s life. It is something that we can call our very own. It is the mark of ones success of how far we go.
Augustine, in his work The Perfection of Human Righteousness, combatted the heresy of Pelagianism as described by Caelestius in his treatise, The Definitions Attributed to Caelestius. Following Pelagius, Caelestius by logic and Scripture argued that the Fall did not destroy man’s natural capability to do right. Caelestius argued that God made us free to do the good and thus we all have the power not to sin, and that both the devil and Adam’s original sin are unable to destroy this power. As proof Caelestius gave examples of Old Testament saints who he claimed lived holy lives.
