At some point in our lives, have we all heard that we have to “trust ourselves” and that in order to achieve your goals, you must have faith. But, is that really true? Will you get what you want by having faith and trust in yourself? These questions describe the issues and themes that are being dealt with in the short story “Faith” by Nick Hornby. The short story shows how great an influence faith has, by just believing in yourself and your surroundings. The short story features a 3rd person omniscient narrator, who is an objective narrator, since the narrator does not comment on the characters and their actions. The narrator focuses a lot on Sarah, and as the reader we get to read her thoughts and feelings, much more than Paul’s and Brian’s. This is very important, since we learn much more about Paul and Brian through Sarah’s thoughts and the issues in their relationship, an example of this is: “she imagine (…) as if she and Paul have got stuck:(...) and she cannot see what is going to free
them, propel them into the next stage of their lives together”(P. 46 L 15-22). The short story is based on a couple, Paul and Sarah, who lives in a flat in London. We do not hear about their appearance, age nor job, but we assume that they are a young couple, maybe in their mid twenties, which is based on this description in the text: “What about work? What about money? What about sleep and
 friends and smoking and drinking and travelling (…)”(P.46 L. 7-8) These are all typical
