The furry community is a group of people who create anthropomorphic characters to bring out their inner self. Anthropomorphic is something that resembles a human form but isn’t human. Furries first started out on the internet then slowly became more public due to conventions and local meetups. A huge part of the community is artwork, which consists of mainly drawings and fursuits. It helps furries express themselves,showing who they want to be publicly. Since furries started out on the internet, it is believed that there’s a higher percentage of males than females. They did all their research instead of writing what they thought it was, which is really something to appreciate. Furries are often viewed by their stereotypes so they automatically get judged. This article points out all the good aspects of the community instead of the negative, which helps furries get a better reputation. If anyone were to read this article, it would really give them a good representation of what furries actually are. “They allow a better understanding of human behaviour and psychology, provide a temporary release from everyday pressures, foster confidence, and allow individual self-awareness. Costuming worlds form a utopia--they present 'an alternative reality that functions as a more humane and democratic society than the real world' (Chen 2014: 22), this shows a better understanding of why people enjoy dressing up or fursuiting at the conventions. It’s honestly a very true statement because in the reality people are judged for not acting “normal”. Conventions feel like home, sometimes it’s one of the only things that people look forward to throughout the year. There is one thing that most would disagree “It might just be a venue that appeals to men more...the men have been a bit more of a demographic in video games and online games which gives you exposure to the online world and the likelihood of getting involved in the furry community.” (Timothy 12 January 2015). Though there is a lot more males in the fandom than female, this is a bit sexist towards women, saying that women aren't into technology as much as men are. They could have used that as an example of why there is a higher percentage of men, but then give a reasoning for the females.
