On October 2016, Univision 14, a spanish channel, showed a documentary in regards to Hate Rising by Jorge Ramos, a well known and influential journalist, writer, and news communicator. He desperately wants to inform to the spanish speaking audience to learn a bit more about what hate and cultural discrimination towards certain individuals is potentially affecting the society we live in today. In addition to the growing white supremacy groups such as the “white power” in the united States. We must understand that race is something created by political norms, beliefs and wants. Hate is something that we knew existed, however, it was a silent disease that was triggered, awakened, and feed into our brains and souls by people who are for “white supremacy or white power”. In the documentary, for example, Ramos meet with the Texas Rebel Knights of the Ku Klux Klan in Quintin Texas. In his interview with one of them, Ramos asks him if he believes that whites are superior than any other race (with an emphasis on Latinos). Not surprisingly, he responds that the KKK does not believe in equality or integration. He surely states that whites are dominant, smarter, and scientifically proven and by God to be better than any other race. To me, knowing that history is open to interpretation, God has nothing to do with a person’s skin color or personal views. God is about love, faith, and personal growth for good. Also, scientist cannot fully determine a race by just a drop of blood from an individual. He also added that the KKK are not racist, just superior. For years it has been said that a drop of blood can be traced to know an individual's gene background. However, blood cannot determine race! because it does not exist. race creates hate, deprives human beings, and stereotypes each other. Racial …show more content…
according to Ramos, hate is done in three ways, we first think, we express, and then we act on it. This is exactly what happened to Asma Jama, a U. S Citizen originally from Kenia, was wearing a Hijab as per her religion and personal beliefs, and was speaking in her native language while eating a meal with her family at a Applebee’s restaurant. Jama, is a victims who was involved in a hate crime. A women named Jodie Marie assaulted her with a hot coffee mug demanding Asma to speak English if she wanted to live in this country because she “looked” muslim. This treat resulted in thirteen stitches on Asma lower lip, and a cut on her eyebrow. Asma Jama, also agrees that Donald Trump feed racism into the people who were already racist. As per the Jodie Marie, she only received one count of assault in the third degree. Just because we assume that a person seems to fit in a profile ,we start characterizing and labeling. These days, people seem not afraid to speak or act as they feel like. What worries me the most, is that they are not even taking into an account that these people also provide to our country. Not because one person or a group has done a threat, means that we can label all
