I enjoyed reading your discussion post. The Columbian Exchange was considered to be unique as far as the valuable products, and then it was not so good because of the serious illness took over rapidly. Indians were really in danger at the time of the exchange, because smallpox was affecting them and causing them to decrease in population. Not only was smallpox a hender, but along with syphilis. On the other hand Europe had prosper by gaining medicine, crops, animals, and more.
They did nothing to deserve treatment they received. As I was reading, I was wondering if Queen Isabela rally expected the indigenous people to be treated fairly or it was just a formality to make it a "rule." 2) What were Queen Isabella’s instructions to Columbus about how to conduct this colonizing expedition? - Queen Isabella instructed Columbus to treat the Indians with respect
1 Andrew Jackson and his Treatment of Native Indians Author’s Name Course Date Andrew Jackson perceived the position of the presidency as one of absolute power that shouldn't be inhibited by bureaucracy. His presidency is famous for resulting to party leadership as well as presidential veto to have their way . In retrospect, it seems that former President Jackson believed it was his duty to do what he thought was right despite the means used to achieve these objectives.
In U.S. history, the U.S. made the mistake of removing thousands of Native Americans from their homes. They were forced to walk down the Trail of Tears in harsh conditions so they could make room for white settlers to move in. Later on, the U.S. admitted its mistake, and now there is land set aside for Native Americans to live on, and many of them receive money on their 18th birthday. The U.S. both admitted its mistake and attempted to repair it, but does this make the United States good?
The Navajo Indian Tribe believes that it is disrespectful when someone points a finger at an object, or at someone. Their belief is that it is better to pucker their lips and nod their head toward the object. That is their way of displaying a ritual that is important to their cultural belief. If a nurse is trying to communicate with a Navajo Indian and he/she points to a communication board, then this shows disrespect according to their belief system.
American Indian’s believe that we should put our planet and the living things that are on it at just as high or nearly as high as ourselves. Most of the ethical theories we study today put humans and their needs above everything. We care more about making money than anything else and do it in a way that kills living things, takes away their ecosystems, and pollutes the earth with bad fumes and trash. American Indian ’s believe that all things have moral status and should be respected.
Essentially, the meaning of culture of honor conveys that,” a man 's reputation is at the center of his livelihood and self-worth.” (167) The culture of honor in the Appalachian Mountains took place at the end of the Civil War and stretched on until the beginning of the twentieth century. In the case of the Appalachian Mountains disputes, it was labeled as a culture of honor because,”it was personal. You fought over your honor.”
When European explorers first discovered the “New World”, both the newly founded land, and the Native Americans that were effected in good and bad ways. When the Europeans first discovered the Natives, the explorers automatically assumed that they were superior or top class compared to them. Christopher Columbias states,(doc 4) “ Very handsome bodies and very fine faces. They ought to be good servants and of skill, for I see that they repeat very quickly whatever is said to them.” As you can tell from this quote, Columbias clearly thought thought of the Native American culture as a joke, and treated them as if they were animals.
The American imperialism was cold hearted and really didn't care about the Native at the time but they did help out most of all torn them down. They knew what they was doing and the first place, didn't second guess anything they don’t care about the native at all. So when you ask me was the American Emperians good or bad for the Native by taking over the colony this is what i would say for my response to my
Thesis: The English were a prideful group, entangled in ethnocentrism, that caused a condescending and harsh treatment of the Native Americans, while the Native Americans were actually a dynamic and superior society, which led to the resentment and strife between the groups. P1: English view of Native Americans in VA Even though the English were subordinates of the Powhatan, they disrespected him and his chiefdom due to their preconceived beliefs that they were inferior. “Although the Country people are very barbarous, yet have they amongst them such government...that would be counted very civil… [by having] a Monarchical government” (Smith 22). John Smith acknowledges the “very civil” government of the Natives but still disrespected them by calling them “very barbarous,” which
I would argue that Native Americans were brutally massacred due to ethnocentrism. The Dominant group, white people, destroyed and ripped away multiple cultures, languages, and traditions from the native people. The dominant group clearly thought themselves of God’s gift to the world; they believed that they were the standard that all other ethnicities and races should aspire to be. Therefore, they chose to coerce the Native people into forgetting their culture so, they could force the dominant culture on to them. This was a cultural massacre, but this was not the only massacre the dominant group committed, even if they did not know about it.
1. Paleo-Indians Paleo-Indians are described as the initial Americans, those who set forth the preliminaries of Native American culture. They trekked in bands of around fifteen to fifty individuals, around definite hunting terrains, establishing traditional gender roles of hunter-gatherers. It is agreed that such Paleo-Indians began inhabiting America after the final Ice Age, and that by 1300 B.C.E. human communities had expanded to the point of residing in multiple parts of North America. As these early Native Americans spread out, their sites ranged anywhere from northern Canada to Monte Verde, Chile.
When the Europeans began colonizing the New World, they had a problematic relationship with the Native Americans. The Europeans sought to control a land that the Natives inhabited all their lives. They came and decided to take whatever they wanted regardless of how it affected the Native Americans. They legislated several laws, such as the Indian Removal Act, to establish their authority. The Indian Removal Act had a negative impact on the Native Americans because they were driven away from their ancestral homes, forced to adopt a different lifestyle, and their journey westwards caused the deaths of many Native Americans.
Market exchange is the exchange of commerce through the price of goods, while reciprocity is equal giving and receiving. Market exchange (capitalism) is considered an intensely social relationship and is generally understood as giving money to get something. Oftentimes, these exchanges are conducted directly between members of society, and so, social interactions and behaviors form as a result of constant back and forth; business transactions. If one does not have money, then one does not have the means to own private property; you do not have the means to engage in market exchange. In the past, American settlers believed that they were buying chunks of land from the Native Americans and that that land now belonged to them.
As well the North American country does not have to care for the first Nations if they wanted to the can just exterminate them or simply send them to another country and not have to deal with their problems instead they're doing something much worse there keeping them isolated in the middle of nowhere far from civilization and not giving the proper tool to survive. This is much worse because if there were sent away, they could start again in another country and keep their nationality and go wherever they want instead they are forced to stay restricted in a reserve where they cannot leave and live somewhere else without out giving up who they are so this is a much greater punishment than sending them away. So I believe North America has severely mistreated First Nations. In conclusion Believe, North Americans have mistreated First Nations all their lives and will continue to do shows on less the start to show respect for them if not they will only prolong the suffering of first nations until the end of
