Explication: I Am Offering This Poem by Santiago Baca In 1990, Jimmy Santiago Baca, an Apache author, wrote Immigrants in Our Own Land and Selected Early Poems. The novel had many prodigious poems; the most notable being his heart-filled ode I Am Offering This Poem. Throughout this explication, I will interpret the meaning of his work I Am Offering This Poem. The speaker of poem, in my opinion, isn’t Baca; the speaker of the poem is the collective will of the indigenous ancestors who lost their land. For this reason, Baca did not make his work sex or tribe specific; and he used many naturalistic allusions like wilderness life, a pot full or yellow corn, and dense trees to emphasize the indigenous culture. Also, in the last stanza, to further
