Light and Dark in Frankenstein Throughout Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, the reader is torn between the forces of good and evil, as well as which characters represent which force. Perhaps the most masterful element of this novel is conveying how an individual can not be judged as wholly good or evil, and how having elements of both traits greatly forms the human experience. By using the motifs of light and dark to represent the positives and negatives of humanity, Mary Shelley is able to effectively convey character traits, depict transitions of good and evil within characters, and employ haunting symbolism and imagery into the novel and transform it into a literary masterpiece. The use of light and dark as imagery in the novel could not be

The Titanic’s maiden voyage was a disaster because the people didn’t prepare for things like this. Most ships go over a safety procedures, but the Titanic didn’t do such a thing. The analogy of life, along with the obstacles that one must overcome in order to advance and to succeed is portrayed through the narrator’s experience with a dead deer in “Traveling through the Dark” by William Stafford. An interpretation of the title “Traveling through the Dark” is one’s outlook of life. Ultimately, humans are incapable of being all-knowing; living day by day without the ability to predict tomorrow. The dead deer on the edge of the road symbolizes unexpectancies in life, the speaker 's ability to make a critical decision when no one is watching allows the speaker to progress in the journey of life.
As well, figurative language in his speech showed the passion and bravery the astronauts had. “As they prepared for the journey and waved goodbye and ‘slipped the surly bonds of earth’ to ‘touch the face of god’” (8). His use of personification justifies to all citizens that the journey that turned into a disaster was not their last. It was only the beginning for them.
“Traveling Through the Dark”: Deep Meanings Within Simple Words For everyone with cognitive thought, choices are a part of everyday life, even when they are difficult to make. A choice could be deciding what to order on a menu, or it could be a decision that could be life-changing. The poem “Traveling Through the Dark” by William Stafford catches the reader’s attention with a choice the narrator must make while traveling on the road less traveled. This poem illustrates the internal conflict people face when it comes to choosing between what is right and what is easy, and it brings to life the constant battle between technology and nature. William Stafford was born and raised in Hutchinson, Kansas and he had a burning passion for hunting and fishing.
When it is said, “Would have mourn’d longer-- married with my uncle, My father’s brother” (I, i) it is shown that Hamlet’s mother, who was said to have been as grief-stricken as Niobe just three lines prior, marries her late husband’s brother. The second part of the line says, “But [my uncle] no more like my father/ Than I to Hercules” For Hamlet, a common man, to compare himself to Hercules, the most well-known and renowned hero in all of Greek mythology, it shows that they are complete opposites. The reference that Hamlet’s father, who could be compared to a titan as wonderful as Hyperion, was as different from his brother as Hamlet from Hercules, proves that Hamlet’s uncle was not by any means a good soul. To conclude, Shakespeare uses allusions to Greek mythology to help develop characters in his soliloquy Hamlet.
The Titanic relates to our assigned readings in more ways than one, for example World War I and II and the great depression. All three affairs took place in the same time period, the 1900s. In the occasion of each, tragedy has struck, causing people to suffer or die. They all have made an impact on the way that society views the world and causes us to look back and see it as a caution sign to not make the same mistakes. In all circumstances, the world has been given a wake-up call, allowing changes to be made for the better in the fear that there could possibly be a
