Chapter 7 of Fast Food Nation discussed the starting of meatpacking industry and its downfalls. At first, Iowa Beef Packers (IBP) used the same principle as McDonald’s principle to make fast foods. IBP hired unskilled workers just to do simple and repeated work all day. However, competition with other companies made IBP low wages and health insurance options. This caused slaughterhouses to move West to gain cheap labor and land.
As a Navy Reservist in a top cargo handling unit, I found myself on an airplane more often than I could have imagined. In those 5 years, we traveled to Virginia and Texas numerous times throughout the year for our weekend meetings not to mention yearly trips to places like California, Guam and Hawaii. It doesn't matter if I was away for the weekend or for two and a half weeks, packing made me apprehensive. I knew what I must bring... the uniform and what I wanted to bring... fun clothes.
Paul Haven was the author of the story above and it never provides any actaul words saying that Skidmore did the crime of murdering his brother by poisoning the pretzel he ate, but it does provide many facts of how it most likely was him and that is what made me think it was Skidmore. I will explain what in the story of "The Curse of The Poisoned Pretzel," made me believe that SKimore killed Macnchester to get the money. A case of a man murdered by his brother was never brought to justice, it was said to have ended by a simple choking hazard when really it was an inncident of an insane twisted family member. In the excerpt from the story, "The Curse of the Poisoned Pretzel," the author Paul Haven indirectly expresses his thoughts about the killing of the character named Manchester. Support 1:
When the assistant coach gives him a Snickers to satisfy his hunger he turns into the real coach. This commercial’s entire purpose is to sell Snickers. The commercial also showcases the rhetorical tool of a hyperbole. In this way it automatically makes commercial funny which introduces pathos. The commercial also includes ethos because Robin Williams is in it.
Jacob Steiner Melissa Hall English 101 14 September 2015 “It’s Time To Take Back Control” This commercial seemed to have done a very good job at getting its message across by connecting illegal drugs to obesity. Sometimes, though advertisers take advantage of this tactic, making their product sound bigger, smaller, healthier, classier, etc. These names have tricked the public by creating what we are looking for. Dooley explains by stating, “In a study that was in the journal of Consumer Research shows that individuals that are dieting or trying to eat healthy foods have learner to avoid some food names” (Roger 361). What Dooley means by adding this is since advertisers know dieters will avoid names that may signify it being unhealthy or too large of a serving, advertisers will do just that to their products
Schlosser does not want to be another individual saying fast food is horrible only because of how unhealthy it is for the human body, his main message goes beyond that. Schlosser is an author who wants to give his readers the argument of how the fast food industry affected the landscape of America, created the gap between rich and poor wider, fueled obesity amongst many and even altered food production across America and the world. As well as getting the point across of how fast food is now what makes up America and is almost now part of the defination of America.
In their advertisement for “Delifresh Oven Roasted Turkey Breast”, Oscar Mayer suggests that their Oven Roasted Turkey Meat is not “complicated” or full of additives. By juxtaposing the turkey and the chair’s “ingredient” tables and the satirization of the chair, the creator places emphasis on the distortion of a product containing additives and the lack of additives in Oscar Mayer’s meat. The anaphora of “It’s” in their slogan creates the immediate association of quality to their packaged cold cuts, while aphorism is incorporated by making a statement that life is complicated, but “your sandwich doesn’t have to be”. Portmanteau supports Oscar Mayer’s ad by combining sane and sandwich to make “sanewich”, referring to the ease of making a sandwich
Most notably is the appeal of pathos. If you’re driving by and see this advertisement for the first time on the billboard you most likely at least have a small chuckle. Once you begin to laugh at this you actually find it amusing and your brain will automatically begin to think of good things from eating at Chick Fil A. This ad also successfully uses the appeal of ethos.

Super-Size Me is a documentary film, created by Morgan Spurlock. This documentary emphasizes the message of the risks of consuming fast food and the outcomes that fast food has on people’s health. Spurlock came up with this idea from a lawsuit that involved two young girls suing McDonalds for their weight problems. The presiding judge over this case ruled that there was not sufficient evidence that their health issues were caused by consuming food from McDonalds. As an experiment to see if these girl’s claim had any merit, Spurlock was determined to only consume food from McDonalds for thirty days and see if there was any correlation between eating fast food and declining of health.
Weaknesses: First, Jamba Juice’s initial surge in store openings, coupled with mismanaged growth patterns, placed a strain on the company’s cash reserves. Second, a further lack of financial discipline within the company allowed for huge increases in operating expenses. Third, although Jamba Juice initially gained popularity due to innovative products, their product offerings quickly became outdated and unexciting. Fourth, the seasonality of cold drinks created stagnant revenue during Fall and Winter months. Fifth, Jamba Juice initially relied on word-of-mouth advertising, but failed to create a viable marketing strategy as they expanded nationwide.
