In the book “Jailhouse Talk” Ray Hill has a talk show. This is no ordinary talk show. Ray Hill has a talk show about jail and the inmates inside. In this essay I’m going to discuss the interpersonal relationships between him and several others in this story including Jon Buice, Richard “ Cowboy” Cain and Chuck Hurt. First off, Jon Buice is an inmate in the state of Texas that listens to the talk show Ray broadcasts.
The rhetorical analysis of the court document “Kinkel vs The State of Oregon”. The document was written to explain the arguments of both sides of the court and to justify the decision made by the court and the judge through facts and rhetorical accounts of events that transpired. The judge clearly uses Ethos, Logos, and Pathos within the analysis which is used to his advantage. There are many audiences involved in the court and trial. There is the defendants and the victim’s family members present.
“Virtuous Arguments” Reading Response Through John Duffy’s written works, he stated that Rush Limbaugh’s sexist comments were insults towards the Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke. John Duffy describes in a well-written manner how critical it is to have knowledge in having an opinion towards a certain topic and commenting about it in a structured format. John Duffy states that rhetoric has taken a turn into a negative path to where people do not care about what they say anymore to the public. John Duffy suggested that Rush Limbaugh was being sexist towards Sandra Fluke on public radio. We should be respectful of other people’s beliefs and or values, because if we have dissimilar opinions we need to be cautious in verbalizing those thoughts so that we do not offend others.
Within “Thank You for Arguing What Aristotle, Lincoln, and Homer Simpson Can Teach us About the Art of Persuasion,” Jay Heinrichs, a skilled editor, and author with a long history of rhetoric delineates a very educational lesson over the power of persuasive writing or speaking in order to interact with the world around us. He accomplishes this by lucidly describing the steps to become a powerful persuader. My favorite chapter is chapter 7, which proves, to me, that this book should continue to be used in schools. Heinrichs organizes the book by explaining the skill then recounting an anecdote to help further explain when and how the strategy is most useful.

Both Sherman Alexie and Francine Prose utilize various rhetorical strategies throughout their essays to captivate their audience. However, Alexie and Prose present and use these rhetorical strategies in different ways. Prose’s essay contains different components of literary devices than Alexie’s essay. For example, one of the rhetorical methods Prose uses is to take on a certain identity to build her credibility and to strengthen her argument. While Alexie also takes on an identity to fortify his argument, it is a completely different identity than Prose.
Every writer has a goal in mind when writing. For some that goal is to entertain, for others, it’s to educate. When writing, authors have many tools or tricks they use. One of the more common tools is rhetoric. There are three main components of a good rhetoric argument, ethos, pathos, and logos.
One of the most recent scandal that happened in Law Enforcement community is the Los Angeles jail scandal. Los Angeles County Sheriff are involved in the incident that took place in Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles, CA. Based on the reports, the sheriffs were abusing the inmates and also in one occasion has been reported illegally detaining the visitors of the prison from Australia. The beatings were unjustified and causes a stir in the Law Enforcement community. This is just another case of police brutality that as been put into light and its giving our police officers a bad name.
Writing can be an effective way in persuading an audience. Creating a connection to the audience is a difficult task, but if rhetorical writing is used correctly, one's writing can be impactful and effective. The authors, Greg Lukianoff and Jonathan Haidt, of "The Coddling of the American Mind" use rhetorical strategies to evoke interest, and to assist in bringing across meaning to the reader. Some of the effects used include data, quotes from ancient philosophers, and specific word connotation. The rhetorical strategies used by Haidt and Lukianoff are for the most part unsuccessful in convincing college administration that shielding students does more harm than good.
Rhetorical Appeals The three elements of rhetorical appeals were analyzed in Po Bronson’s article “Learning to Lie,” published February 10, 2008. In the article, Po Bronson uses rhetorical devices to persuade the reader that a reasonable one-third of teens lie to their parents. Bronson discusses about young kids learning to lie and what their causes may be. To better convey his points to the reader, Bronson uses the rhetorical appeals of ethos, pathos, and logos. Ethos is trying to convincing the audience and a persuader by trying to achieve credibility.
Many people have a certain opinion when it comes to their standing on tattoos, whether they see them as beautiful pieces of art, or body mutilation, everyone subscribes to a different belief. Many people who see teenagers, believe that these teens are “troubled”, or impulsive and impressionable, which at that point in the brain’s development that may be true, but they never consider that maybe that teen is ready, or is willing to commit to the tattoo simply because it is something that has importance to them. Introduction The distinct purpose of the use of rhetoric is to persuade the audience. An excellent example of the use of rhetoric occurs in any politically charged situation, be it the presidential debate or the local municipality elections. In either context, the candidate must state their purpose in a manner that will bring the majority of people to their side. It is also a place where the opinions of members of the public can be heard and responded to.
Today technology is an integral part of lives, the digitized age has incorporated itself into nearly every aspect of our culture. This even includes the methods by which we persuade defined specifically as rhetoric. I will discuss three examples of digital rhetoric, each example will be representative of a distinct form of digital media. I will then explain the manner in which the respective examples use the appeals of persuasion. I will follow up by describing how the various appeals are presented to persuade the target audience.
