Life, the Universe and Everything by Douglas Adams is the third book in the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series. Against a civilization that wishes for the total destruction of all other life, the main character, Arthur Dent, and his friends must save the Universe from Krikkit and its deadly wish. A group of robots that escaped from the Slo-Time seal on Krikkit attempt to hunt down all the pieces of the gate. Consequently, Arthur and his friends are rushing to stop them. Traveling from the Lord’s Cricket grounds on Earth to an airborne party lasting multiple generations, Arthur and his friends venture off to prevent these robots from gaining all the pieces of the gate.

In the party, they find Trillian, another friend of theirs. They find out that the second piece is was stolen by the robots. Meanwhile, the third piece which is the Infinite Improbability Drive of the Heart of Gold was also stolen and Zaphod Beeblebrox and Marvin the Paranoid Android were captured. Upon arriving at Krikkit, they find out they were too late and must negotiate with the Krikkiters. They are directed to spaceship facilities orbiting the planet and infiltrate them with Marvin and Zaphod’s help. Surprisingly, the Krikkiters are also reluctant to continue the war. Soon, Trillian realizes that the Krikkiters are not smart enough to be able to destroy the Universe and discover that Hactar, a supercomputer that created a bomb capable of destroying the Universe, is the true source. Hactar was almost destroyed after giving the Krikkiters a fake bomb but was strong enough to give Arthur the real bomb. Hactar was also the one who created the spaceship which led to the catastrophe. After Hactar apologizes, Arthur and the rest leave for their ship and return to Lord’s Cricket Grounds after the attack. After the war is over, Arthur is inspired to bowl one shot at the wicket but halfway through realizes it was the bomb and the robot was trying to blow it up. He then misses the ground, flies, takes the bomb, and disables the
