In life we tend to see failure as a terrible thing. When we do fail, most of the time we want to give up and see it as the end of the world. However there are few that see failure as an opportunity to do better and rethink the mistakes that were made in the past. Angela Duckworth, Emily Hanford, and CarolDweck all provide their research on how one can have highachievement e in life. Angela’s Duckworthresearch on grit proposes the idea that if someone stays persistence for a long time they can master something.
Grit and Growth Mindsets both work together to support success. Grit and Growth Mindsets are both positive things and if you don’t have either of those two things you will not be successful. According to Angela Lee Duckworth and Lauren Eskreis-Winkler, “Grit, however, is distinguished from the general tendency to be reliable, self-controlled, orderly, and industrious, with its emphasis on long-term stamina rather than short-term intensity.” (p.51.) Duckworth and Eskreis-Winkler are saying that Grit is, having the ability to always be able to do something and to do it right way and to work very hard on it and to sustain it rather than not giving your all to it.
There are many differences for me between a growth mindset and a fixed mindset. First, I think having a growth mindset means that you are willing put in the time and dedication to do something. Then having a fixed mindset to me means that if something is challenging you give up and quit. In addition, having a growth mindset means you want to learn new things even if you know they are challenging. At my job this affects me a ton.
Neither one of the mind-sets are perfect they both make mistakes. The differences between the two mind-sets have a very wide variety. A fixed mind-set person isn’t very willing to learn because they are afraid they will be judged by their mistakes but someone with a growth min-set is always willing to learn even though they have to correct their mistakes “effort is a positive thing for them.” People with a fixed mind-set also have the tendency to hide their mistakes which often get them in more trouble than they were already in. In my opinion the growth mind-set would be more beneficial to someone because they have more opportunities to learn new things unlike those with the fixed mind-set.
Understanding what a growth mindset entails will enable one to accept obstacles and draw constructive lessons from them. It is possible to form and break mindsets from an early age. The

I figured that I have more of a growth mindset than a fixed mindset. A growth mindset is when you are willing to change your mind more easily than a fixed mindset. Developing a growth mindset took important people: grandparents, my mom’s boyfriend, and my high school teachers and faculty.

Along with their differences in learning, these students also have a difference in school priorities. The students with the fixed mindset only cared how smart they would appear and turned down opportunities that were critical to their success. Students with the growth mindset thought about their efforts, and when they work harder it will show in their abilities and accomplishments. Author Maria Popova writes, “A ‘growth mindset,’ … thrives on challenge and sees failure not as evidence of unintelligence but as a heartening springboard for growth and for stretching our existing abilities.” Clearly “growth mindset” is the building blocks towards teaching grit. It teaches children to not simply give up, but when encountered with challenges to persevere through them. Which in result, will help these children to overcome obstacles and put forth effort to reach their goals.
