Several years ago, the Pata Zoo faced a lot of criticisms because of the plight of the animals. Basically, Pata is a common department store in Thailand, but on the top two floors, approximately 200 animals live out their lives in shocking conditions (Doherty, 2010). This led to much debate in Thai society. To clarify, many people seem to care and talk about how pity animals are. He releases the appalling condition of the enclosure and including the concern about the danger of fire that may happen to the Pata Zoo. Additionally, not only about the Pata Zoo that the author mention, but he also includes other animals’ abuses in Thailand in order to show that the animal welfare law in Thailand cannot help the animals. Starting with the strong point, the author shows the attention to the audiences’ value, which is about Buddhism because the article mainly focuses on the zoo in Thailand and Buddhism is a national religion of this country. The author mentioned about the relationship between religious teaching and animal exploitation that even though some countries have a culture that rooted in the Buddhist teaching that supports the idea of equality between animals and human, the problem of animal abuses still exists in Buddhist societies. On the other hand, if the author takes Buddhism’s theory as an evidence of the animals abuse in the United State, it will not work. Another strength of this article is that the evidence that he chose in order to support his mention is conceivable and well-reasoned. For example, in McDaniel’s article, he said “Because of the structure of the zoo, the conditions of the enclosures, and the dreadful appearance of the animals, it is understandable why there are regular flare-ups of outrage about the Pata Zoo” (McDaniel, 2011).
