Did you really think slavery ended after the Civil War? Well… I hate to admit it hasn’t. After reading A Crime so Monstrous: Face to Face with Modern-Day Slavery opened the hidden world of modern slavery. The title alone is enough to question yourself; is this really happening? Once you check the first chapter you begin to relentlessly question yourself leaving the urge to get answers. You will get to the point where you will want to continue to read what happens next as if it was a mystery novel. Or wonder to yourself do things get worst or does the rainbow come out at the end of the storm.

At first everything goes fine because of the recent death of their mother. As the months passed the sympathy vanishes and reality begins to creep in. The children become restavèks they are now the ones who clean and do chores. They no longer attend school and eat like they once did. Bill no longer sees his sister and gets beaten and verbally teased by the children who he lives with. After three years of being a slave to the family his life takes a quick one night two men abduct him. Someone who has been keeping an eye on what is happening decide to take him away from his current life. One thing leads to another until a man notices that Bill drumming talent. There are still those type of greedy evil people who started the war around today. There are a few groups that promote the human rights movement throughout the world. Many started out small but began to grow as word spread out about slavery. You might think it is easier now to let people now since there is more technology, but it is up to those who actually want to make the change. A few of the known groups are the United Nations (UN), United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) later shortened as United Nations Children’s Fund, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Start looking into these organizations and put a little effort for someone in need.
