In “Unplugged: The Myth of Computers in the Classroom,” David Gelernter suggests the limit of technology use in the classroom. Over that past several years, technology has advanced quite a bit. This new outbreak of technology is beneficial in some ways but Gelernter feels that technology is replacing the ways of teaching. He sees the significance of the subject and offers much visual analysis which helps the reader take more caution in using technology while in the classroom. Gelernter feels that technology builds a wall that enables students to build strong, basic skills.

Hunger of Memory: The Education of Richard Rodríguez is a memoir that explores Richard Rodríguez’s coming-of-age in an America that challenges him to understand what it is to be a Mexican American and what it is to be a Catholic in America. At the heart of this autobiography is Rodríguez’s recognition that his is a position of alienation, a position that he accepts with resignation and regret. As the title of this collection of autobiographical pieces suggests, he remembers his early childhood with nostalgia, while acknowledging that his coming-of-age has resulted in his displacement from that simple, secure life. The most critical aspect of his education and his development of an adult self is language.
Rebuttal to Hunger of Memory Richard Rodriguez came from a Hispanic family that had little to no knowledge of the English language. That required his entire family to speak English at home and for him and his siblings to endeavor daily tutoring sessions. He stated in his memoir that learning the public language of English would drain the intimacy out of his first language: “Once I learned the public language it would never again be easy for me to hear intimate family voices (240).” This outlook has shaped his entire life.
In Richard Rodriguez’s autobiography Hunger of Memory, Rodriguez writes about his struggles of assimilating to American and having to deal with the pain of learning a new language that he is not comfortable with Throughout the biography, Rodriguez also writes about the emotional toll that comes with assimilating to his country He speaks about the difference between public language which is English and private language which is his native tongue, Spanish.
