Victims of the Holocaust demonstrated finding light in the darkness by practicing their religion, comforting and consoling one another, and masking the truth. Jews practiced their religion during the Holocaust instead of giving it up. In the text, Prisoner B-3087, the author states, “But suddenly I thought standing in a minyan for somebody’s Bar Mitzvah as the most important thing in the world,” (Gratz 269). This is an example of how Jews practiced their religion because he is continuing to practice his religion and help others practice theirs. This is important because practicing religion gave Jews faith to keep going and to have hope. Another quote that supports this is from the text, Night, “Muster your strength and keep your faith,” (Wiesel …show more content…

In the text, Night by Elie Wiesel, the author states, “I lay down on the upper bunk. The sick were allowed to stay in the block. So I would be sick. I didn’t want to leave my father,” (Wiesel 111). This is an example of how the victims of the Holocaust stuck together and comforted each other because Elie didn’t want to leave his dying father so he stayed with him even though he wasn't sick. He comforted his father within his last few days so that he wasn’t alone. If Elie wouldn’t have done this his father would have been alone and wouldn't have been comfortable in his last few days on earth. Another example is from the same text, Night by Elie Wiesel, the author states, “Hold on! We’re almost there! Courage! Just a few more hours,” (Wiesel 92). This is an example of how they found light in the darkness by sticking together and comforting each other because he is telling others to keep fighting because they had almost arrived at their destination. It is important that they stuck together and comforted one another so that no one was alone and on their own in this tragic time. It is also important that everyone had a positive mood and kept going so they could survive. In the text, Night by Elie Wiesel, the author states, “Yes, my mother did hear from them. Reizel is fine. So are the children…” (Wiesel 44). This is an example of how they masked the truth because Elie is lying to this man about his children being alive. If Elie would not have lied then the man most likely would have given up hope and went into a depressive stage that he would not have survived. Elie lying gave this man a reason to keep going and survive. Another example is in the movie, Life is Beautiful. In this film Guitdo told his son that the Holocaust was just a game and nothing bad was going to happen. Guitdo told his son this so that he would keep going and so that he would win this game but ultimately so that he would survive the Holocaust. If Guitdo would not have done this his son wouldn’t have had a reason to stay positive and keep surviving. These are great examples of how Jews masked the truth in order to stay positive. If the People who were targeted in the Holocaust would not have masked the truth many of them would have given up, lost hope, and ultimately lost the battle and
