The title of her poem is ironic, Jones is visiting a civil rights museum but there is a KKK uniform there, set on display with its empty and dirty holes for eyes. One would think that while yes, the uniform is part of civil rights history, it would be one of the last things people would put on display at a civil rights museum.

Theoharis also brings in the lack of realistic controversy in the ‘processed’ Rosa Parks story. By using ‘stripped’, Theoharis makes the lack of political substance seem unnatural and forced.

As a young girl, she was innocent and unaware of all the discrimination in the south. This obviously relates to the title in that she satirically chose it to express her defiance to societies pressures. The subject of the pressure society can place on our beliefs and ideologies is also shown through the “wicked witch,” and the husband who pressured the wife into changing her views on the “colored people.” Originally the wife showed compassion toward the, “loafers and tsotsis,” when she, “sent the trusted housemaid out with bread and tea.” However, she was quickly reprimanded by her peers, and told that her compassionate actions were only “encouraging them.” This all relates back to the ironically developed subjects of fear and racism, and these extreme fears are what eventually lead to the unnecessary barbed wire coils on top of the fences that, in the end, were the real threat to their safety.

This means that Rosa Parks was refusing to give up her seatn while she was on a bus this is because she wanted to be the first person to give up her seat on the publioc bus. In my next paragraph I am going to talk about is why did Rosa Parks have to get arrested just for not giving up her seat.
The story takes place at the height of the Civil Rights Movement in America, when desegregation is finally achieved. Flannery O’Connor’s use of setting augments the mood and deepens the context of the story. However, O’Connor’s method is subtle, often relying on connotation and implication to drive her point across. The story achieves its depressing mood mostly through the use of light and darkness in the setting.
Nella Larsen’s Passing is a novella about the past experiences of African American women ‘passing’ as whites for equal opportunities. Larsen presents the day to day issues African American women face during their ‘passing’ journey through her characters of Irene Redfield and Clare Kendry. During the reading process, we progressively realize ‘passing’ in Harlem, New York during the 1920’s becomes difficult for both of these women physically and mentally as different kinds of challenges approach ahead. Although Larsen decides the novella to be told in a third person narrative, different thoughts and messages of Irene and Clare communicate broken ideas for the reader, causing the interpretation of the novella to vary from different perspectives.

Miss Emma and Rosa Parks quietly persevere. Miss Emma sets a “precedent by being the first black person to have coffee in Edna’s Guidry’s living room” and Rosa Parks’ “defiant act set in motion the Civil Rights movement”. Both women showed strength and determination in the face of adversity. Another example of the influence of Miss Emma and Tante Lou on Grant occurs when the teacher expresses why he feels unable to impack Jefferson.
When Rosa Parks got an arrest, it had started a resolution. When Rosa didn't get up from her seat for a white man, the driver called the police and arrested her. So at her court date, the African Americans had started a boycott. The Africans have to seat in the back of the bus in the colored section. Because Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white man; she started a revolution and the fight for equal rights for black people.
