Kathleen Raine , the author of “Passion” ,manages to convey and portray her journey of thoughts towards happiness using certain phrases and meanings . Overcoming the heartbreak that unrequited love brings ,which she clearly suffered from . But eventually manages to overcome her feelings of depression and realizes throughout the poem that her happiness connects strongly to nature . Firstly , Raine describes her misery before anything else . She describes herself as “full of desire” , the use of the word “desire” hints that she may be wishing for the true physical form of love , the form that she thought she had with her last love(Gavin Maxwell) but never really had.

The clouds that sail without you , the stars that navigate you and the “ever-moving sea’’ that will take you wherever the wind blows . ‘’And forest dwellers’’ , the forests that are always growing ,that continue to live whatever the circumstances are , and this ‘’your nature is’’ . There is a very clear message that comes within , is that you need to pick yourself up after you fall down , continue with living and ‘’dwell’’ like a plant , even if it means to submerge into nature because at the end of the day , this is her nature , as the sky suggest so .
Reassurance is repeated again when the cloud says : “Lift your heart again without fear”. The sky is telling her to be brave and start to live her life happily ,telling her to do whatever you will to do but with no fear or regrets. The word ‘lift’ may also relate to the rising to god , indicate a new start , a more holy one where it 's all peaceful and she may find the tranquility that her soul
