In his article “Paths of Globalization from the Berbers to Bach” (Spring 2008), Yo-Yo Ma indicates that “our globalized world, cultural traditions from an essential framework for identity, social stability and compassionate interaction. Globalization so often seems to threaten the identity of the individual, by subjecting us to someone else’s rules. That naturally makes us nervous, since these rules ask us to change our time-honored habits.” In another word, the basic identity structures, stable society and mutual effect all build the globalization and traditional culture. The new culture will be endowed with a specific meaning like the sarabande dance. I agree with that interaction will create a new culture. Many of people must heard one word “McDonaldization.” The sociologist George Ritzer create the term McDonaldization. In his book The McDonaldization of Society he gives us a definition that “the process by which the principles of the fast-food restaurant are coming to dominate more and more of American society as well as the rest of the world.” McDonald’s in China is a good example to explain why interaction will create a new culture. During the last time, Chinese children will not hold a birthday party for their birthday and only elderly people who over 50 years old will celebrate their birthday. Nonetheless, McDonald’s bring a new tradition for Chinese children that they can hold an American-style birthday party to celebrate their birthday without expansive fees. Children can buy something they like and make the decisions by using their own money to share with their friends. We can say McDonald’s create a new tradition in China. This also can change requirements to students’ own desire, learn it without any push, and turn it into their own knowledge. Then, students will teach it to others and then given them the self-confidence to find what they like and who they want to be. I agree with that. Most students can choose a major they like in the university and because of we love our major we will work hard for it 100% and overcome the challenges in our way to be succeed. I remember that when I was in primary school, all of us had English class. I was interested in learning a new language, however, there were many challenges waiting for me to overcome, but I still loved to learn it. When I learned one more language I could understand a culture more deeply. Like food is a big piece of traditional culture, I think language is the same. I learned TOEFL for four months and I decided to study abroad which not only can broaden my horizons but also can give me a good chance to live in another style. I learned English without any push, and I figured out this is the best way to learn something. All of us don’t want to study
