Power and Freedom are two things that have been fought over for centuries, yet there still remains an imbalance between the two. Today in the United States, everyone lawfully possesses equivalent freedom, but this does not translate directly to power and society. The autobiography, Always Running by Luis J. Rodriguez, follows the journey of a boy, Luis, who struggles with his racial identity, as he feels forced into a world filled with gangs, drugs, and violence. An inequality of power and freedom is seen in the book, through classes, racism, and sexism, all things that are not typically chosen. There are different forms of freedom: living and loving how we want, and the ability to engage in favored activities, but this requires power. Although
